Admissions/Contact
Taos Country Day School’s mission is to provide a comprehensive education based on the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner that engages and nurtures the child physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We seek to cultivate each student’s individual gifts, to encourage independent thinking and imagination, healthy social behavior and skills, and to foster a life-long love of learning. Our goal is to enable students to become balanced, vigorous, life-affirming, and compassionate individuals who are able to meet the challenges of their lives and times. We advocate respect and understanding of all cultures and the natural environment. The school provides a non-competitive, physically and emotionally-safe learning atmosphere that encourages community involvement.
Taos Country Day School serves children with two mixed age kindergartens through grade eight. A student’s acceptance into the program is based on the school’s ability to meet the child’s needs, as well as the needs of the class. Children are eligible for the mixed age kindergartens when they are three and one half years old by September of the admitting year. Children continue in the kindergarten program often for several years with additional activities geared toward the older child. Students enter 1st grade when they are 6 by June 15th of the admitting year. Children with summer birthdays are evaluated on an individual basis for first grade readiness.
Tuition for Kindergarten ranges from $5080/year for the 3-day program, $6775/year for the 4-day program to $7380/year for the 5-day program. Tuition for the grades school program is $7380/year. Limited tuition assistance is available.
Admission Procedures for New Students:
1. Visit the School: Families interested in enrolling at Taos Country Day School need to visit the school and meet with the school’s enrollment director.
2. Application Forms and Fees: Prospective families must fill out one application per student and pay a non-refundable application fee of $75 per student.
3. Interview: A meeting will be arranged between the teacher, parents and child. This is an opportunity to discuss more fully the philosophy and methodology of our program. The curriculum can be explored in greater detail. Any special needs that the child might have should be discussed at this time.
4. Class Visits: After the interview, a child may be invited to spend a day or two in the classroom. This will better help the teacher assess if it is a good fit for the child and the class.
5. Decision: After completion of steps 1—4, the school’s enrollment director will seek approval from the Kindergarten or class teacher concerned, and inform the prospective family in writing whether the student has been admitted.
Re-enrollment Procedures:
1. Application Forms and Fees: Parent(s) or guardians wishing to re-enroll a student must fill out one application per student and pay a non-refundable application fee of $75 per student.
2. Decision: After the submission of the re-enrollment forms, the school’s enrollment director will inform the parent(s) or guardians in writing whether the student has been re-enrolled.
